The Practices And Challenges Of Social Work Service Provision In Ambo University Referral Hospital

Abstract

This study aimed at exploring the Practices and challenges of social work services in Ambo University referral hospital. The study utilized phenomenology qualitative research design. The data was collected through in-depth interview and focus group discussion. The collected data was analyzed following thematic data analysis. The study identified that the current role of the social workers such as Assessing the Patient’s social and Psychological Needs, Providing Financial Planning and Assistance, Developing Discharge Plans, Counseling, Advocating for Patient’s Rights. The study has also identified major challenges that the social workers facing. The study identified challenge such as Lack of resources, Capacity building-related challenges, and Poor working conditions. The study also recommended methods to enhance the social work services delivered in the hospital settings
