Male Involvement In Family Planning Utilization And Associated Factors Among Married Men In Liban Jawi District West Shewa Zone Oromia Ethiopia

Abstract

Background: Inadequate Male involvements in family planning among married men in the study area were the gap identified for this study. The study will have different significances that it can provide some guide line and information to different sector on about male involvement in family planning and give baseline information for new researcher in study area or another area. Objectives: to assess male involvement in family planning utilization and associated factors among married men in LibanJawi district, West Shewa Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia, 2023. Methods: A community based cross-sectional study was conducted among randomly selected 374 participants fromAugust 15/8/ 2023 to September 30/9/2023 the data were collected by interview administer using structured questionnaire. The data was cleaned, coded and entered to EpiData (Ver.3.1), and analyzed by using. SPSS (Ver.26) computer based statistical package for both Descriptive and analytical statistics were done and displayed by using text, frequencies tables, and figures. Binary logistic regression model was used for inferential statistics or to see the association between dependent and independent variables. P-values of <0.25 were used on bi-variable logistic regression analysis to select the candidate variables for the final model. Odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals were computed to see the strength of associations. Finally, p-value<0.05 on multivariable logistic regression analysis were used as cut off point to declare statistically significant variables. Result: From a total of three hundred seventy four respondents 359 participants gave responses and the response rate was calculated 96% and the prevalence of male involvement in family planning were 54.9% [95% (CI: 49.6-59.9%)] moreover Secondary and above educational level with adjusted odd ratio of (AOR: 7.97, 95% CI: 4.27-14.86). Respondents who have ten and more children had adjusted odd ratio of [AOR: 7.57 (95% CI: 4.19-13.68)], respondents who have a desire to have more than 5 children in the future reproductive life with adjusted odd ratio of [(AOR: 0.30 (95% CI: 0.19-0.46)]. Decision making by both partners with adjusted odd ratio of [AOR: 6.37, (95% CI: 3.54-11.47)] and decision making by wife alone with adjusted odd ratio of [AOR: 2.42 (95% CI: 1.47-3.99)] respondents who had good awareness on family planning with adjusted odd ratio of [AOR: 6.38 (95% CI: 3.54-11.47)] were significantly associated factors. Conclusion: The study identified prevalence of Male involvement in family planning utilization and influencing factors like; level of education, shared decision making, desire to have more children in the future reproductive life, awareness of family planning, number of children within marriage, were independent factors associated with Male involvement in family planning utilization.
