“Practice and Challenges of Good Governance in Ethiopia; Case of Holeta Town Administration”

Abstract

Good governance has gained significant attention in developing countries and Ethiopia is no exception. It is widely recognized that as a precondition/prerequisite for sustainable development particularly for developing countries like Ethiopia. The main objective of this study is to assess the practices and challenges of good governance in Ethiopia; the case of Holeta city administration. To achieve these objectives the study Descriptive research design was employed. 140 questionnaires were distributed out of the data was collected from 130 public servants its performance is 93%, and interview from officials selected via purposively. The study used mixed research approach and a primary and secondary source of data were taken from different written documents and researches. The data analysis method used Descriptive data analyze method with help of SPSS v26 software. Based on the descriptive analysis conducted the practice of good governance in public institutions practically different achievements and failure was observed. The major findings of the paper identified that questionable distribution of resources especially finance, weak transparency and accountability, limitations on participation in different activities, for example election, lack of responsiveness or speedy service delivery which leads to lack performance standards, limitations on respecting rule of law are observed. The researcher kindly advised interested researchers to investigate the practice and challenges of good governance at different city administration throughout Ethiopia to get and share experiences each other. Therefore, individuals required to be dedicated to fulfill their responsibilities.
