Factors Influencing The Level Of Women Participation In Community Development Projects: The Case Of Ambo Town

Abstract

The main purpose of the study was to establish the factors that influence the level of participation of women in community development project. The objective of the study was to assess the factors that affecting the level of women participation in community development project in Ambo town. To achieve this objective, descriptive survey design was used which were supplemented by both quantitative and qualitative data. The study was Out of total population of female at Ambo town in 2015 E.C those are 16183. The sample size of the respondent’s was 115. Sampling techniques of the study was stratified random sampling technique. The method of data collection was through stratified random sampling technique method and the tools are questioners, interview and FGD. The data obtained through questionnaire was analyzed quantitatively using descriptive, inferential statistical, and while data obtained through interview were analyzed qualitatively. The major findings of the study are factors that affecting the level of women participation in community development project in Ambo town From the study it can be concluded that socio cultural factors, economic challenges, infrastructure and capacity building a major role on low participation of women in community development projects. The government should partner with other organizations to organize more workshops to sensitize the community on the importance of allowing women to participate on development of the community. The overall recommendation of the study was to improve women’s hope, awareness creation program and bringing perceptual and attitudinal changes in all men and women should be conduct through providing training, workshops and experience sharing.
