dc.description.abstract The objective of this research is to analyze the role of indigenous knowledge in peace building in Ambo town. To accomplish this, the study employed qualitative research approach, which involves descriptive design. Necessary data for the study were gathered from both primary and secondary sources. Tools such as key informant interview, focus group discussions and observations were used for collecting data based on the objectives of the study. Accordingly, Ambo town was selected through availability of sample population (respondents), necessary data and proximity to the researcher. Then, Abbaa Gadaa, elders and religious leaders were selected purposively for the interview and for focus group discussion. Then the data obtained from sources were organized thematically and analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study reveal that indigenous knowledge is playing a crucial role and effective in healing hostile relationship and enduring peace in the study area. In addition, indigenous knowledge which is applied based on the home-grown knowledge is incorporating elders, Abbaa Gadaas, religious leaders and other respected people in supporting peace building process. However, indigenous knowledge is facing some challenges form diversity, modernity and religious expansion that needs creating continuous awareness, capacity building, developing the culture of filing the all packages of indigenous knowledge. Generally, indigenous knowledge is helping the local community in maintaining their peace based on natively developed knowledge needs great attention from government and people to survive as an asset. en_US
