Abstract:
This study assesses the major factors affecting women economic empowerment in Micro and
small enterprises of Kolfe Keranio sub city. To address issues both quantitative and qualitative research
methods were employed in this study. Accordingly, a sample of 92 women entrepreneurs engaged in four
sectors such as manufacturing, construction, trade and service were taken for the study using stratified
sampling method. Data collected through questioner and interview of key informants, after the data has
been collected, it was analyzed using simple statistical techniques (tables and percentages) and descriptive
statistics (mean and standard deviations).and also for inferential statistics the researcher use probit model
and marginal effect to assesses the major factors affecting women economic empowerment in Micro and
small enterprises of Kolfe Keranio sub city. The results of the study explicitly described challenges of
women economic empowerment in Micro and small enterprises. The research also found out that the
Education, saving and training on management has a statistically significant impact on affecting women
economic empowerment. Regarding the government support services the study figured out Training and
consultancy support, financial support and the provision of working premises are the dominant supports by
the government. When it comes to the constraints for the implementations of government support services
the research indicates access to market and access for finance are the major barriers in this regard. Based
on the major findings, recommendations were forwarded to existing and potential entrepreneurs, Micro and
small enterprises Micro finances and other government bodies.
