Determinant Factors Affecting Women Participation For Decision Making Position In Public Sectors Of Dano Woreda West Shoa, Oromia Regional State

Abstract

This main aims of this study was to investigate the determinant factors affecting Women participation for decision making position in public sectors of Dano Woreda, west Shoa Oromia Regional State. The objective of the study was to assess the factors that affecting women participation in decision making position in Dano Woreda public sectors. To achieve this objective, descriptive and explanatory survey design was used which were supplemented by both qualitative and quantitative data. The study was carried out in Dano Woreda public sector, the target population of the study was employees existing in Dano Woreda public sectors, and those are 247.The sampling size of the respondent’s was 153. Sampling techniques of the study was probability sampling specifically simple random sampling. The method of data collection was through survey method and the tools are questionnaires, interview and document analysis. The data obtained through questionnaire was analyzed quantitatively using descriptive, inferential statistical, regression analysis and correlations were used to analyze using SPSS version 20, while data obtained through interview were analyzed qualitatively. The reliability of the data collection instrument was calculated and the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.87. The major findings of the study are decision making position in Dano Woreda public sectors are mainly dominated by male and it is not attractive for women. Based on correlation analysis shows the relationship between demographic factors, social factors, organization factors and Legal frame work gaps and women participation in decision making position observed strong and positive relationship and the results of regression analysis observed that demographic factors and social factors, organization factors have significant positive effect on the women participation in decision making position. But Legal frame work gaps have insignificant relationship with women participation of decision making position. The overall recommendation of the study was to improve women’s hope, awareness creation program and bringing perceptual and attitudinal changes in all men and women should be conduct through providing training, workshops and experience sharing.
