This study examined contributions challenges and opportunities faced by CCRDA and its
member organizations who are capacity building beneficiaries. Predominantly this study is
focusing on four thematic areas namely capacity building programs, level of CCRDA’s
contribution in providing capacity building services, Member NGOs capacity gaps and
Challenges of CCRDA regarding Capacity building programs. The objective of this research is
to show what CCRDA’s contribution, challenges and opportunities looks like regarding the
capacity building service being rendered to member organizations and as the same time to
assess gaps of CCRDA’s member organizations. The study was done on descriptive way by the
use of primary and secondary database on 53 purposely selected by stratified sampling method
who are capacity building services beneficiaries of CCRDA’s member organizations. The
research has employed quantitative and qualitative research methodologies using different data
collection technique such as document review, key informants’ interviews and questionnaire.
Participants of this research were 42 respondents from member organizations and 10 from
CCRDA. The data obtained from the above participants using the stated techniques have been
encoded by using SPSS software and analyzed using different statistical methods such as
percentage and frequency for quantitative data coded and word description for qualitative data
to inform the research inquiry. NGOs in Ethiopia are currently playing an increasingly
important role in the social and economic environment and implementing various development
agendas at national level. Though NGOs are contributing a lot to development, their existence
and overall operation have been challenged by resource constraints and limited capacity.
Though CCRDA has been engaged towards providing capacity building services, there are no
prepared periodical reports concerning the program. Shortage of finance and human resources,
lack of capacity building assessment framework, and narrow approach to capacity building from
members’ side are the major weakness observed by this study. In order to keep the objective of
capacity building program the researcher recommends that CCRDA need to conduct need based
capacity building assessment, properly utilize income generating activities by using its idle
resources and periodically prepare reports concerning capacity building program. |
