dc.description.abstract Religious leaders play an important role in promoting immunization to the community using the existing system of their religious institutions. This study assessed the engagement of religious leaders in promoting immunization, the perception of the community on the involvement of religious leaders in promoting immunization, the opinions of government health offices and immunization partners on the involvement of religious leaders in promoting immunization, and opportunities and challenges. The study was conducted in Erer Woreda of Siti Zone in the Somali Region. A descriptive qualitative study was employed. The study utilized 8 in-depth interviews and 30 focus group discussions. Data were analyzed using Atlas-ti software thematic analysis. Findings revealed that the immunization promotion activities conducted by the religious leaders seemed to be accepted by the community. All religious leaders emphasized the importance of vaccinating children. Similarly, community members have benefited from the immunization messages that they received from religious leaders. The health professionals agreed that religious leaders are very important collaborators and agents of change for immunization programs. Participants agreed that religious leaders are a reliable source of information. The study participants also agreed that the experience of working with religious leaders should be duplicated in other developmental activities. The role of religious leaders play in promoting immunization has a positive change in the behavior and practice of the community. It was recommended that other development sectors shall use the religious systems to be successful with their programs since religious leaders are trusted by their followers/the community which results in the cooperation of the community towards success. However, it is better to learn from the challenges faced and strengths gained during the implementation process and perform accordingly. en_US
