dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the strategies employed by EFL teachers in teaching Listening skills to grade 9 students at Ginchi secondary school.. To conduct the study, a descriptive research design was employed. Out of the total population of 930 grade 9 students, 20% was selected using simple random sampling technique. Three English language teachers were purposively included to the study because the teachers selected. Questionnaire, interview and classroom observation were used to collect data. Questionnaire, the main data gathering instrument, was adapted collect quantitative data which was analyzed by using mean scores, and standard deviation. Frequency and percentage were also used to analyze the participants’ characteristics. The data gathered through interview and classroom observation were also discussed in line with basic research questions. Consequently, the main findings confirmed that the teachers’ use of the listening strategies was insufficient. The expected practice of teaching listening skill during pre-listening, while-listening and post-listening stage was occasionally done. Most of the students were unenthusiastic to attained listening lessons. Lack of students’ and teachers’ interest, motivation, time constraint, students language problem to cope up with teachers’ fast reading were considered as the main challenges of the implementation of the strategies. The students attempted the close-ended and they left most of the open-ended listening activities undone. To solve these problems, teachers should play their role in giving training, guidance, awareness for their students to motivate them towards listening skill. English language teachers are also expected to have some selective training on the reading manual and textbook. en_US
