Abstract:
Study on human resources satisfaction and retention intentions have paramount
importance for an organizations smooth functioning. Ethiopian Federal Police
employees’ had various work related challenges which affects their job satisfactions.
Therefore, this study was initiated to ascertain the determinants of employee job
satisfaction in the case of Western division of Ethiopian Federal Police employees. From
2017-2021 there were 856 employees (Federal Police members) exit their job which is as
high as 16% out of the total of 5325 employees under western division. This implies the
turnover rate during the last five years was 856 (16%) and the actual total number of
employees that exited from Ethiopia federal Police Commission West director gap. This
study used mixed research approach. Therefore, this research was attempted to identify
institutional factors, environmental and demographics factors that determine the
employee job satisfaction in western federal police division. Primary data were collected
through a semi-structured questionnaires administered on (177), and 20 federal police
staff management selected using Convenient Sampling technique. Moreover, the survey
was supplemented by using secondary data and key informant interviews. Furthermore,
combinations of data analysis methods such as the factor loading and multi-linear
regression method using the SPSS software 26 were used for data analysis. The employee
job satisfaction result revealed that the major institutional factors were communication,
opportunity growth, salary and benefits, and organizational culture. The result of OLS
indicated that major institutional factors were communication, opportunity growth,
salary and benefits, and organizational culture as well as demographics factors age and
job rank level was significantly affected employee job satisfaction. In addition to,
environmental factors such as job stress, job security and working environment were
significantly influenced employee job satisfaction. Offer new career opportunities and
within the police commission, create an open environment for employees to build
friendships, allow employees to have a proper work-life balance, build supportive
relationships between leaders and members and help employees overcome
procrastination through rewards were some of the recommendations forwarded to
alleviate determinant of employee job satisfaction in the study areas. Moreover, it’s
recommended that the Ethiopian Police force employees have to be given the chance of
participation in decision making and empowered to improve their level of satisfaction.
