Abstract:
This study aimed to examine practice and challenges of public participation in local development in case of Burayu Town administration. Descriptive research designs were adopted with both qualitative and quantitative research approach. The study population comprised from Burayu Town administration sample representatives were identified through systematic and stratified sampling. Where by data was analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively uses SPSS 25. Multi stage sampling, cluster, purposive and simple random sampling was employed to select 180 respondents and 124 interviewed key informants technique is used to identify each respondent Questionnaires, focus group and interview were served as data collection instruments. The study examined practice and challenges of public participation in local development in Burayu Town. The majority of the respondents were as they participate in development activities through different aspects, while non-participated groups were less than of the total respondent. To investigate the effectiveness of the public participation committee in managing the development process, the majority of the respondent was reach on the decision of medium effective committee and effective. The other response was the least for which highly effective and ineffective. The majority of the respondents were agreed as the government extensively motivates peoples to participate on development activities, followed by the least group of dis agree. It is better Participation in development as it enhances good relationship and cooperation, and whether Participation in development does increase the sense of helping each other among peoples of local community
