Abstract:
The research was conducted to examine factors affecting employee commitment in Ambo town
Public Service Sectors and to identify the factors that influence the employee commitment. The
mixed research design was used; data was collected using closed -ended questionnaires from
126 respondents. The tools used for data collection were adopted employee commitment
questionnaire from the primary source of data collection. Person’s correlation Statistical tool
and multiple regressions were used to test the hypotheses. The finding shows that there was
moderate level of employee commitment. Among the factors affecting employee commitment,
Compensation and reward, Training, Employee Selection, Grievance handling and Job
Experience affected moderately affected the level of employee commitment. Performance
appraisal highly affected level of Public Service Sectors in Ambo. The correlation analysis and
multiple regressions showed that significant positive relationship was found between employee
commitment and the stated affecting factors. And the adjusted R² is 0.511. Thus, by taking the
adjusted R² 0.511 can be said the predictors i.e. Compensation and reward, Training,
Performance appraisal, Employee Selection, Grievance Handling and Job experience account
for 51.1 % variation of employee’s commitment. And the remaining 48.9 % depend on other
factors. The result of the study also showed that from the six selected factors major predictors of
employee commitment were Compensation and reward, Employee Selection, Job Experience. At
the end recommended improving to give explanation on thus factors Compensation and reward,
Training, Performance appraisal, Employee Selection, Grievance Handling and Job experience
to improve in public service sectors for increase employee commitment.
