Abstract:
The study was conducted in Abuna Gendeberet District concerning the factors affecting the 
managerial effectiveness of primary agricultural cooperatives as local development 
societies. The purposes of this study were to examine factors affecting managerial 
effectiveness the case of Abunagindeberet primary agricultural cooperatives. To accomplish 
this study both descriptive and explanatory research design and mixed research approaches
were employed. The researcher used random sampling methods to select a sample from 9
primary agricultural cooperative members of 134 in figures. Primary and secondary 
sources of data were collected through in-depth interview/ unstructured and structured and 
questionnaires. Finally, data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential analyses. 
Besides, the qualitative data collected were analyzed using descriptive narrations through a 
concurrent triangulation strategy. To facilitate the data processing and analysis activity
SPSS (Statistical package software for social science) version 25. Accordingly, the study
identified five major factors for the affect of managerial effectiveness in the study area
which include: member participation factors; member commitment factors; structural 
factors; communication factors; and managerial factors. The results showed that member 
participation factors are the key to managerial effectiveness and are highly influential. The 
findings further indicate that there exists a positive, significant relationship between 
independent variables and the dependent variable. Moreover, the selected independent 
variables significantly explain the variations in the dependent variable. Finally, the study 
has suggested cooperative promoters, the government, and prospective members should 
prioritize those factors
