Abstract:
This study was designed to assess the factors contributing to the violation of children’s right in 
MWW, North Shewa Zone in Amhara region. 154 households were selected using simple 
random sampling techniques while 49 representative children and 21 key informants were 
selected purposively for this study. This study employed explanatory and descriptive survey 
research design followed by mixed research approach whereby qualitative and quantitative 
methods of data collection. Data were collected using, scheduled interviews, focus group 
discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews and physical observation. The data entered, 
categorized, coded, and summarized using the SPSS software Version 20 and analyzed using
descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean, frequency, standard deviations and binary 
logistic regression model. P-value <01 and <05, 95% CI and exponential coefficient of 
adjusted ratio (COR) were used to test the association between children’s right violation and 
contributing factors. The analysis showed that the children’s right violation is strongly 
associated with economics, socio-cultural and political factors at significance of p<01 and <05. 
The result of the study indicated that children in MWW are highly challenged by different forms 
of right violation due to economic, political and socio-cultural factors that are contributing to 
lack their survival, protection, participation and development rights. Integrated development 
Interventions designed to improve the social-cultural, economical and political needs of the 
children is crucial to prevent or address the multifaceted children’s right violations. These 
include creating access to improve the economic and social service providing capacity of 
households/ parents ; awareness of households , children themselves and the communities to 
ensure children right protection, and creating access for children to have a say in matters 
affecting their social, economic, and political rights.
