Abstract:
Access to a safe and affordable water supply of drinking is universally recognized as a basic
human need for preset generation, But many oromia rural Communities are suffering from lack
access of safe drinking water supply facilities specifically in Dawo woreda, To do that detail
accessibility has been taken in the issues of type of water technologies introduced to the woreda,
the serves determinant of the Practices, Challenges and Opportunities of water Supply in case of
Dawo District before homestead hand pump technology implementation and show that the
difference after technology implementation and the input of this technology in the development.
The researcher design is descriptive research design. Household surveys, Observation, KII and
FGD were used for primary data collection. Documents review from different offices was used
as a tool to collect for secondary data. For the selection of kebele administration stratified
sampling method was used. On Weloso zones two persons interview, two kebele administrations
were selected from Tulu Bolo Town, Three persons from Busa Town two persons GNO
Currently working. KII would be conducted with 9 individuals. Household survey was conducted
in five selected village administration from the total 203 house hold hand pumps well owners
were take 135 Samples by applying proportionate Sampling method. Quantitative data were
analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage cross tabulation using SPPS Version
25.0. The practices of Dawo Community to get drinking water before homestead water wells and
pumps by hand technology implementation the survey show that from the total 135
respondents, 67.4% of respondents had get water from dinging traditional hand dug wells,17%,
15.6% had the practices of get from unprotected spring and fetch from river repressively. By
nature The challenge of geographical location to get potable dirking water 47.4% strongly agree
followed by 50.4% Agree, Concerning the challenge of geographical location to implementation
homestead water wells pumps by hand project 42.2% dis agree followed by 34.10% Strongly dis
agrees. This show that Environmental has the challenges to get drinking water because the
naturally of river around sink in to the ground make the water table near enough this also show
that favorable for implementation of hand pumps. Technology has the input in socioeconomic
development selected five beneficiaries have recorded success stories in using hand pump water
for other purpose other than drinking.
