Abstract:
Resource mobilization is a valuable component for strengthening local non-governmental organizations.
The objective of this study was to assess practice challenges and opportunities of resource mobilization
by the local non-governmental organizations operating in Adama town Oromia regional state.
Descriptive research method was conducted for the study. Accordingly, 47 local non-governmental
organizations were selected from total of 47 functional local non-governmental organizations
population using census study . The main instrument for collecting primary data was questionnaire and
interview; while secondary data was collected from published document of Charities and Societies
Agency and selected local non-governmental organizations.The study findings indicated that
dependence on foreign fund, capacity limitation of the organization, public image, networking with
resource providers and other non-governmental organizations, anddonors rule and regulation were the
main factors that affect resource mobilization. The study has also identifieduntapped opportunities that
local non-governmental may explore in their area of intervention and thereby to coup up challenges,
thus the researcher recommended promoting local resource mobilization to reduce dependency on
foreign fund based on the study findings.
