The research aimed at investigating the role of Civil Society Organizations in women
empowerment in Economic, social and political participation in Wuchale District of Oromia
National Regional State. The general objective of the study is to assess the roles of Civil Society
organizations in women empowerment Wuchale District. The Research design employed
descriptive analysis, the research methodology captured both qualitative and quantitative
approaches and primary and secondary data sources used for selected variables of data analysis.
The findings of the study were that the civil society plays a significant role in advocating for gender
equality, women’s rights and capacity building services for project activities success while seeking
to increase women’s participation in all decision making process, women’s representation in
public organs and participation in politics. The research also sought to find out the major
challenges faced by Civil society organizations and opportunities exist include as existence of
grassroots Civic activism, the new civil society organization proclamation no.1113/2019 and
Networking and coalition building among Civil society organizations.
The study therefore, recommends the CSOs need to overcome these challenges and use identified
opportunities in order to support women empowerment in terms of economic social and political
participation in collaboration with four strategic institutions, include Governments, private sector,
CSOs and media. This can be done by improving CSOs funding, educating the public through
capacity building programs, by networking with stakeholders with whom the CSOs share same
interests and holding joint activities for projects sharing the same outcome. |
