Abstract:

provides over 99% effectiveness for an extended period of time preventing unwanted pregnancy
at least for 3 years to 12 years. Due to low contraceptive utilization particularly Long-acting
reversible or high unmet need, about 295,000 women lost their lives during and following
pregnancy worldwide, while most of these occurred in low income countries.
Objective: utilization of long acting reversible contraceptive methods and its associated factors
among married reproductive age women in Wolmera District, Oromiya Special Zone Finifine
Surrounding, Oromiya, Ethiopia, 2021
Methods: Community based cross-sectional study design supplemented by qualitative focus
group discussion was conducted from December 1_
30/2021 with sample size of 400.Data
collection was conducted by trained data collectors, using structured and pretested interviewed
administered questionnaire. Finally, data we rechecked for completeness, consistencies, coded
and entered in to Epi Data version 3.1 then exported to SPSS version 23 for further analysis. A
multivariate logistic regressions was utilized to ascertain the associated of LARC utilization at
95% confidence interval. P-value <0.05 was taken as a cut of point to declare the level of
statistical significance. The result was presented in the form of narratives, tables, pie charts, and
graphs.
Results: The overall utilization of long acting reversible contraception was35.3%. At [95% CI: p
(30-40)]. Having knowledge about LARC (AOR, 95% CI: 0.13(0.05, 0.63), supportive attitude
(AOR,95% CI:0.22(0.05, 0.95), desire to have children in the near future (AOR,95%
CI:0,15(0.05,0.44), discussion with partner when to use contraceptive(AOR,95%CI:0.09 (0.03,
0,24) and media exposure of the respondents (AOR,95%CI:0.13(0.05, 0.34) were predictors of
utilization of long acting reversible family planning method.
Conclusion and recommendations: the overall utilization of LARC is low in the study area as
compare to national target of country. Knowledge, Attitude, desire to have children in the near
future, discussion with partner, and media exposure were the associated factors for LARC use.
Health promotion activates on the benefit of LARC need to be undertaken to increase awareness
