Abstract:
Nowadays, the growth of youth unemployment is one of the critical problems facing
Ethiopia. The main objective of this study is the causes and consequences of youth
unemployment in Holeta town. The specific objectives of the study were to examine
the current condition of youth unemployment, to examine the causes of youth
unemployment in Holeta Town and to identify the weakness of the government to
alleviate youth unemployment in Holeta town. The design of the study was
descriptive survey. Regarding to research method, the study used both qualitative
and quantitative data, and purposive sampling technique. As data collection tools
open ended and closed ended questionnaires, interview and focus group discussion
were employed. The result of the study shows that in Holeta Town there were poor
entrepreneurship skill, low education quality, mismatch between profession and the
labor market, population migration from rural to urban and problems of
implementing government strategy at the lower level. From government bodies in
Holeta city administration, bureaucratic service giving and low attention to the
youth unemployment issues practiced common. Depending on the study of causes
and consequences of youth unemployment in this town, governmental institution
and non-governmental institution should have to do to give solution on youth
unemployment to reduce the problem in the town. Based on the findings some
recommendation would be suggested
