Analyzing Challenges And Role Of Social Enterprises On Local Development A Case Of Sacco And Teachers And Workers Association Social Enterprises In Ejere District

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyzing challenges and role of Social Enterprises in local Development in performing their activities in two kebeles of Ejere woreda .The research design employed in the study was Descriptive statistic .Both Primary and secondary data collection were employed. The primary data included questionnaire, focus group discussions, and key informant interview while secondary data collected from both published and unpublished written material. Data were collected based on household survey using a structured questionnaire on 133 social Enterprise members randomly selected from SACCO and Teachers and Workers association of Ejere. Both qualitative and quantitative methods of data analysis were employed to analyse the data to be collected. Data obtained through questionnaires were analyzed using statistical tools such as frequency, percentage and descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviations) and Data obtained through interview and FGD were analyzed by content analysis. The findings of the study revealed that SACCO and Teachers and workers of Ejere district consumer association were positive impact on improving the economy and solve society problem in the study woreda. Lack of knowledge and Awareness, lack of finance, cultural influence and lack of technology are some of the constraints of study area. Based on the findings, it has been found out that, SACCO should develop Awareness of its members, enhance its institutional capability, and must make increase saving culture.
