Abstract:
This study was designed to assess the factors that affect the performance of women
entrepreneurs ‘performance in MSEs, in Jigjiga City.
A sample of 301 women entrepreneurs engaged in 5 key sectors was taken for the study
using stratified and simple random sampling. In the process of answering the basic
questions, a questionnaire that include demographic profiles, characteristics of women
entrepreneurs and their enterprises, factors that affect the performance of women
entrepreneurs in MSEs and the effects in technical trainings were designed in a closed
ended and Likert scales. After the data has been collected, the statistical package for
social science (SPSS) version 20.0 was used to analyze the data obtained from primary
sources. The respondents ‘scores were summarized from the package and made ready for
analysis. After that, it was analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques, descriptive
narrations and regression analysis. The demographic profiles and items related to
characteristics of women entrepreneurs were analyzed using simple statistical tools such
as tables and percentages. Tools of analysis such as spearman‘s rho correlation and
Independent sample T test were used, for instance, to determine the relationship that
exists between dependent and independent variables Multiple Regression Analysis and
ANOVA were used, the results of the study indicates the personal characteristics of
women entrepreneurs in MSEs and their enterprise affect their performance. The legal
and administrative bodies are required to create an enabling environment for the growth
and development of MSEs, the study also found that customer service training, marketing
training, financial report training and entrepreneurship trainings were the main
challenges of the entrepreneur. The study also found that even though TVETs provide
technology, machine maintenance, technical skill training and facility supports, co
operations in the areas of business-related trainings are poor. Based on the major
findings, recommendations were forwarded to existing and potential entrepreneurs,
MSEs, Micro finances and TVET educators
