Oromia police commission has developed a set of well-defined guidelines and procedure that are used in the selection of new recruits for the Oromia police officer, based on clearly defined criteria. Nevertheless, the challenges and practice of the selection and screening of potential police officer that are fit by all standards to serve in the Oromia Police Commission has not so far been well investigated. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of assessing the challenges and practice of the selection and recruitment processes of police officers. To end this, using purposive sampling techniques to selected Oromia Police Commission head quarter, Oromia Police College and East Showa Zonal Police Administration. Questionnaire was used to collect data from 139 respondents. Using Purposive sampling 5 key informants from Oromia Police Commission, Oromia Police College and East Showa Zone police Administrative selects for interview. The data were collected by using questionnaire, interview and document analysis. Quantitative analyzing tools like frequency, percentage and tables are used to analyze the data that are collected through questioner and deals with qualitative analysis which are covered on the interview. The data were processing using SPSS software version 23.The study revealed that the recruitment and selection process of police officer in the Oromia Police Commission head quarter was not effective owing to like poor of affirmative opportunity to encourage females’ requirements to the job, poor selection of the right officer based on multi skilled, poor planning for recruitment and selection, allocation of insufficient budget, and unsatisfactory level of transparency among committee members during the screening and selection process as well as absence of efforts to create an inspiring and popular image of the Oromia Police Commission officers. Thus, Oromia Police Commission should design appropriate planning of recruitment and selection, allocate sufficient budget and create positive image to reverse the aforementioned |
