Instructional Leadership Practices In Secondary School Of Toke Kutaye District, West Shoa Zone

Abstract

The school is as an environment to change the productivity by the ability of instructional leaders to analyze existing conditions and future challenges, and implement strategies. The purpose of this study was to describe Instructional Leadership practices of school leaders in secondary school of Toke Kutaye District west shoa Zone Oromia National Regional State, Ethiopia. Hence, the populations of this current study were taken from these four selected secondary schools. With Simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques, the total number of sample size of this current study from these four selected secondary schools were 172 respondents (10 School Leaders, 28 members of parent teacher association, and 4 woreda education and130 Teachers). The data gathering tools were closed ended, open ended questionnaire, FGD and structured interview. The data was analyzed by mean, standard deviation, Percentage and frequency. By descriptive research design about 128 were filled and returned to make a return rate of 98.5%. Accordingly, the results were reported as their overall mean values as follows. Thus, the defining the mission variable overall mean value was 2.667or moderate. It show that the school‘s principals not usually communicating mission and goal to teacher‘s, student, parent and other stockholder. The overall mean value of managing instructional program of teachers ‘response was found to be 2.767, which moderate. The overall mean value of promoting the school climate was 2.798. The result clearly shown most of the school was less practice promoting the school learning climate. The interview result of some teachers given their ideas that most school principals for some reason not interested to help teachers. But, its aggregate mean for the variable challenges of instructional leadership was found to be (M=3.383, SD=.94), which is considered as moderate. The third variable the possible strategies to alleviate the problem of the practices aggregate mean value was found to be 3.121 (SD=1.06), which is considered as moderate. In general, having a good plan is not an end by itself; it requires proper implementation for instructional success. The recent results of the research an objective implies that the schools have to self evaluate and take corrective actions as well as improve themselves. Finally, further study should be made to investigate more about the practices of instructional leadership in primary schools
