" Compliance Of Tuberculosis Infection Prevention And Associated Factors Among Health Care Workers In Public Health Centers In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia”

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis remains a significant public health challenge globally. It ranks as the second leading cause of death from infectious diseases around the world. Compliance with tuberculosis infection prevention and control measures among health professionals at health centers remains low in many low-income countries, including Ethiopia. Although the World Health Organization provides comprehensive TB-IPC guidelines emphasizing administrative, environmental, and personal protective measures, their implementation is often inconsistent. In Ethiopia good compliance of TB-IPC among health workers as national pooled average is 46%. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the compliance of tuberculosis infection prevention and associated factors among health care workers in public health centers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2025. Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from June 15 to July 30, 2025 among 417 randomly selected healthcare workers. Five sub cities were selected randomly. The data was gathered by Kobo tool and coded, entered, cleaned and exported to SPSS version 27 for processing and analysis. Both Descriptive and inferential statistics were done. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis was fitted to identify the association between independent and dependent variables. Finally, a P-value of <0.05 was used to declare the statistically significant variables on the final model. Results: - the current study showed that the magnitude of compliance of Tuberculosis infection prevention measures among health care workers was 197(47.2%) [95% CI(42.7%, 52.0%)], age ≥35 years [AOR = 4.38, 95%CI (1.63, 11.76)], higher educational status [AOR=3.62:95%CI (1.07, 7.27)], training [AOR = 10.8: 95% CI (6.14, 14.88)] and usage of tuberculosis infection prevention and control guidelines [AOR=3.04:95%CI(1.29, 7.20)] were found to be significantly associated with compliance of Tuberculosis infection prevention. Conclusion The magnitude of compliance of Tuberculosis infection prevention was consistent as compared to national standards. Age, higher educational status, training and usage of tuberculosis infection prevention and control guidelines were found to be significantly associated with compliance of Tuberculosis infection prevention. To optimize good compliance of Tuberculosis infections prevention, provide training, implement guidelines and encourage participation higher professional involvement is recommended.
