Factors Influencing Safety Net Beneficiary Improvement In Addis Ababa: The Case Of Kolfe Keraniyo Sub City

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing Safety net beneficiary improvement in Kolfe Keraniyo Sub City, Addis Ababa. The research applied Descriptive and Explanatory research design and a mixed research approach. The data was collected from 137 randomly selected project staff, beneficiaries and Implementation Committees of three selected Kebeles (a small administrative unit) clustered into three agro-climatic zones of the woreda, using key informant interviews, and document reviews. The methods used in the analysis were descriptive statistics (percentage and mean) and inferential statistics (T-test). The result also revealed a lack of control and monitoring, and Inadequate training for training the project staff and also users of the project, payment delays, and poor planning processes as the main challenges. Therefore, improving the management strategies, revising the strategies particularly; the tools, guidelines and manuals of the safety net is essential for best performance to address the food security challenges in general and the beneficiaries in particular. The study used a descriptive and explanatory methodology and investigated the elements that were identified as having an influence safety net beneficiary improvement in Kolfe Keraniyo Sub City. We established independent variables (beneficiary improvement factors) and dependent variables (beneficiary improvement criteria).Both independent and dependent variables—beneficiary improvement criteria and factors—were identified. The main data gathering technique was a questionnaire, which was distributed to 137 respondents. Regression, content analysis, and descriptive statistics were used to examine the data that had been gathered. Version 27 of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was employed.
