Acomparative Study Of Quality Education In Government And Private Primary Schools: The Case Of Sheger City Administration Sebeta Town

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to conduct a comparative study of the quality of education between government and private primary schools the case of Sheger city administration Sebeta town. The researcher used random sampling techniques; Questionnaires and semi structured interview were used as data collection tools. Primary data was collected from 16 schools which mean 8 schools from government and 8 schools from private. 200 questionnaires were distributed to randomly selected respondent for 80 teachers, 80 parents, 32 school administrations, 4 supervisors and other 4 education office officers. All (100%) of the questionnaires were filled and returned to researcher. Mean, standard deviation and t-test were used to determine the difference. Descriptive research design was used along with both quantitative & qualitative research approaches. Parent’s involvement, school-parents relationship, government office’s supervision, curriculum implementation, teaching aids, students average grade report, teachers- students ratio were the main focus of the researcher. Based on the qualitative and quantitative investigations, the paper came with the finding that both government and private primary school of the city running teaching-learning in different quality. Private primary schools are better in parent’s involvement, student’s average grade report. Teachers-students’ ratio, Government primary schools are better in Curriculum implementation. The researcher recommended that, government education office’s officials should control and treat both types of school equally in order to improve quality education. Government’s primary school also needs to increase parent’s involvement, reduce class size to the standard level in order to enhance student’s grade report and achievement
