dc.description.abstract Brucea antidysenterica is used for traditional medicine in the treatment of various diseases. Specifically the seeds part of the plant was known in the history of folklore medicine in different parts of Ethiopia. The present study was intended to evaluate phytochemicals as well as antibacterial activities of seeds extracts of Brucea antidysenterica. The powdered seeds of the plant were successively extracted with n-Hexane, chloroform and methanol respectively. The n Hexane, chloroform and methanol extracts were subjected to phytochemical screening and the results of the screening revealed the presence of Alkaloid, flavonoid, saponins, terpenoids, protein, phenol, resin and tannin in reference to the solvents. Two compounds coded as BA-1and BA-2 were isolated from the chloroform extract using column chromatography and the structure of this compound was characterized by (UV-Vis, FT-IR, and crude extract of chloroform was characterized by GC-MS). All the tested samples were having greater inhibition zone against all bacterial species at a dose of 20 µL. BA-1 and fraction was in active at 10 µL against all bacterial species. en_US
