Youth employment plays a vital role in promoting economic growth and ensuring social stability,
making it a key development priority. This study investigates the determinants of youth employment
in Muger town, emphasizing the influence of demographic, educational, and socioeconomic factors
on employment status. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, data were collected from 268 youth
respondents using structured questionnaires. The study applied descriptive statistics and logistic
regression analysis to identify key drivers of employment among the youth. The findings reveal that
employment status is significantly influenced by factors such as gender, age, educational
attainment, vocational training, prior work experience, household income, and access to labor
market information. Males and individuals with higher education levels or vocational training were
found to have a higher likelihood of being employed. Social networks and access to job market
information emerged as the most influential factors enhancing employability. Qualitative insights
further highlighted barriers such as limited job opportunities, financial constraints, and genderbased
challenges. The study also considered the impact of demand-side issues, acknowledging that
a lack of available jobs can significantly hinder youth employment regardless of individual
qualifications. The study concludes that improving youth employment outcomes requires a
comprehensive, multi-sectorial approach. It recommends promoting gender equality in
employment, expanding access to vocational training and labor market information, enhancing
networking opportunities, encouraging active job search behavior, and ensuring access to financial
resources. Addressing such factors can significantly boost youth employment and support
sustainable economic development in Muger town and similar areas, ultimately leading to
improved socio-economic well-being and reduced poverty among youth |
