Abstract:
Agriculture is the backbone of Ethiopian economy contributing more in economic growth, employment generation and contribution to total export. Coffee production is among the major crop products contributing more in Agriculture. Therefore, this study was conducted with the objective of determinants of Coffee production among smallholder households in Horo Guduru Wallaga zone. The study used both descriptive and inferential analysis to access the current status of coffee production and its determinants in the study area. Primary data was gathered from 265 randomly selected households from coffee producer households. Gathered data was analyzed by using Cob-Douglas production analysis with the result of elasticities. Descriptive statistics shows that average production of coffee in the study area is 4.05 quantal per hectare. The inferential analysis result depicts that total labor, access to extension services, total cost of producing coffee, use of pesticides, total land size for coffee production, are statistically and significantly affecting production of coffee.
