Land management practice refers to activities on the land that uses appropriate technologies for improvement of productive capacity of the land and increase crop productivity. The aim of this study was to assess the Effectiveness of Land Management Practices in Improving Crop Productivity in Dendi District, West Shewa zone, Ethiopia. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were collected through different method of data collections like Interview, Semi-structured questionnaires. Dendi district and three kebeles were selected purposefully. From three selected kebeles 148 respondents were selected by using random sampling method. Descriptive statics were used to analyze data. The result of the study indicated that there were different types of land management practices in the area were Agro forestry, Terraces, Manuring, Inter cropping, Crop rotation, Planting trees, Composting and Inorganic fertilizer. Additionally, the effectiveness of land management practice in improving crop productivity was assessed by crop productivity in quintals per hectare produced with and without the use of land management practices. It was assessed by comparing the mean crop productivity of the major crops between the land with and without land management practices. Based on the result of this study, land management practices was increased crop productivity about 21.4984 Qu/Ha. The finding of the study also revealed that challenges of land management practices in the study areas. Challenges of land management practices were unsustainable agricultural land management practices, soil erosion, deforestation, lack of awareness, etc. Land management practices are reduces soil erosion and improves crop productivity. So agricultural land management plays a crucial role in improving crop productivity and it is better if all of the community and government institution pay attention from planning to land management practices |
