Abstract:
Occupational safety and health (OSH) management practices are essential for enhancing
employee performance. By ensuring a safe and healthy workplace, companies reduce injuries
and illnesses, boost morale and job satisfaction, decrease absenteeism, and promote a positive
work culture. Investing in OSH leads to a motivated, efficient, and productive workforce. (Smith,
2023).The aim this study was to investigate the role of occupational safety and health
management practices on employee performance in case of Rose farm industry in Holeta Town.
To meet the objective of the study data were collected from randomly selected 168 respondents
using 1-5 likets scale questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
For descriptive analysis frequencies, percentages, mean scores and Standard Deviations were
used. In inferential statistics, Pearson’s correlation and regression analysis were used to assess
both relationships and effects between the occupational safety and health management practices
on employee performance. The findings of the study revealed that Management commitment and
policy, safety training and awareness, Provision and use of personal protective equipment, work
environment, incident report and response and employee involvement have positive and
significant correlation with employee performance. Similarly the regression analysis result
indicated that the identified occupational safety and health management practices by this study
contribute to R-squared (coefficient of determination) value is 0.65, it means that 65% of the
variation in the dependent variable can be explained by the independent variable in the
regression model. In other words, there is a moderate positive relationship between the two
variables, where the independent variable accounts for a significant portion of the variability in
the dependent variable. On the other hands, the multiple regression coefficients result of this
study indicates that a one percent increase in occupational safety and health management
practices (management commitment and policy, safety training and awareness, provision and
use of personal protective equipment, improvement in work environment, incident report and
response, and improvement in employee involvement) in rose farm industry increases in
employee performance by 6.3 %, 61%, 30.6%, 12%, 15.3% and 16.6% respectively. Thus the
study concluded that the four rose farms in holeta town should prioritize regular safety training,
conduct periodic workplace risk assessments, and implement comprehensive health programs to
foster a safer and more productive environment identified by this study. However, future
research should be conducted by including additional occupational safety and health
management practices that did not considered by this study.
