Abstract:
The objective of this study was to examine the socio-economic challenges elderly people face in
Burayu Town. The researcher used a qualitative research approach; data were collected
through interviews, focus group discussions, and observations. The study employed purposive
sampling techniques to select 25 participants, data were analyzed thematically. Findings
revealed significant economic challenges, financial insecurity, limited employment opportunities,
and restricted access to resources. It also identified social challenges such as difficulties in
social interactions, strained interpersonal relationships, and a lack of community support
systems. Additionally, the study explored how residents view the challenges faced by elderly
people, revealing that cultural beliefs and societal norms play a significant role in shaping these
perceptions. These findings provide crucial insights into the critical issues affecting the
community and emphasize the need for targeted actions to improve the economic and social
well-being of elderly individuals. Based on these findings, recommendations are made include
providing financial aid and job creation in high-demand sectors, ensuring fair wages, and
supporting small businesses. Additionally, training programs should be offered for skill
development, and improvements made to public transportation. Access to affordable healthcare
and social services should also be expanded
