A Study Of Female Teacher’s Participation In School Leadership In Primary Schools Of West Shoa Zone Ambo District

Abstract

The purpose of this is that to assess women teachers’ participation in school leadership, because women are a major force behind peoples’ participation in life of society today. Women work longer hours than men and contribute more to the development of their societies. To collect data on a study of female teacher’s participation in school leadership of west shoa zone some selected primary schools in Ambo district. To collect data the researcher used descriptive survey study design in this study. Primary data Source and Secondary data Source were employed by the researcher 89 female teachers and 7 school principals comprehensive sampling techniques used for sample size of the study, and purposive sampling technique used by researcher to take seven primary schools in Ambo woreda, because many of primary schools in Ambo district were not functioning due to lack of peace. Questionnaire, interview and document analysis were used to collect data., and also data analyzed by using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on the findings, there were Lack of interest and lack of confidence in school leadership by them. Women find it difficult to balance their domestic roles, professional roles and school administrative management work, lack of role models at educational management levels. Based on result above the researcher put some recommendations below. Concerned body that works on gender issue and the government itself should endorse funding to overcome gender stereotype. Raising various factors which could influence their participation is crucial; like creating conducive working environment and condition, setting applicable school rules and regulations to handle students who misbehave badly which could avoid the conviction of masculine leadership.
