The Role Of Non-Governmental Organizations On Improving Life Standards Of The Society The Case Of Holeta Town

Abstract

Now a days NGO’s are playing major role almost in an equivalent amount with government organization in supporting societies in different aspects. NGOs as led actors contribute in promotion of public life standards in developing countries. The collaboration and networking in Promoting education between NGOs, the government organs and other actors are not often assessed scientifically. The objective of this study was to assess the Role of NGOs in improving life standards of the society in Holeta town. To finalize it, the research method had employed descriptive study. Survey questionnaire was used to gather the relevant quantitative data. The qualitative data was gathered through semi-structure interviews and personal observations. The collected data was descriptively analyzed. The major findings are that the contribution of NGOs in woreda in areas of urban poverty reduction and development plan as well as life standard is remarkable but not as expected. There is less intervention in areas of environmental intervention, microfinance, and local institutions capacity building. Due to lack of base line survey and research NGOs are working in similar and limited areas. There are some efforts with regard to NGOs collaboration among themselves and networking but is not satisfactory implemented. This section strongly recommended that a good and careful consideration for various obstacles hindering the activities and operations of NGOs in Holeta town and how such obstacles can be overcome in order to enhance and bolster their activities in the future need to be taken. The work done by NGOs matches the strategic aims and objectives towards the improvement of livelihoods and socioeconomic conditions of local communities
