dc.description.abstract |
The objective of this study was to examine the effect of organizational citizenship behaviour on the performance of Development Bank of Ethiopia at head office. In order to achieve the aim of this study the researcher applied both descriptive and explanatory research design and quantitative research method and a cross sectional survey design were used. Multifactor organizational citizenship behavior questioner and Organizational performance questioner were adapted to determine the effect. The study was conducted on Development Bank of Ethiopia head office and the sample of the study consisted of 279 professional employees and using probability simple random sampling. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences.
The correlation result of the study shown that the Organizational Citizenship Behaviour dimensions altruism and courtesy have positively and strongly significant correlation with the performance of bank and the remaining dimensions conscientiousness, civic virtue and sportsmanship has positively and moderately significant correlation with the performance of bank. Most importantly, a multiple linear regression model was applied to determine the cause and effect relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The findings revealed that all the Organizational Citizenship Behaviour dimensions have a positive and significant effect on the performance of Development Bank of Ethiopia at head office. The adjusted R2 = 0.702 and the ANOVA model shows positive and significant result. Therefore, Managers of the bank should pay sufficient attention to their employee’s on their work behaviour in order to determine some level of certainty to those employees who are high in citizenship behaviour so that such behaviours’ could be continuously reinforced as a way to retain the Organizational Citizenship Behaviour in their work |
