The purpose of the study was to examine Practices and Challenges of Human Resource Management
in Secondary Schools of Adea Berga Woreda. The study employed mixed research design consisting
quantitative and qualitative approaches to collect and analyze data. Samples of schools and study
participants were drawn from four government primary schools selected using purposive techniques.
Participants of the study were 142 teachers and five parent student and teacher association members
selected by simple random sampling method, seven secondary school principals, and one CRC
supervisors, selected by purposive sampling techniques. Self-developed questionnaire was employed
as the main data collection instrument in addition to interview, and document analysis. Quantitative
data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage mean and standard
deviation, and qualitative data were analyzed by using narrative analysis. The study indicated that
employment of human resource is effective in all secondary schools .The study also revealed that
capabilities and ability required for the different job positions are not well defined and used in
staffing process in secondary schools of Woreda understudy. Internal employment and assessment
process is moderately effective in identifying the best people for the job. The staffs have no voice in
decision making regarding change in work situation. From the finding it is concluded that human
resource found in secondary schools of Adea Berga woreda have the problem of commitment in
performing their job effectively to improve their school and enhance students’ performance.
Therefore, school leaders and Woreda education office should assign affective and competent human
resource in secondary schools of Adea Berga Woreda. The schools and woreda education have to
develop the capacity and commitment of workers and the leaders through training. |
