Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of unemployment on youth„s livelihood: in Shagar City administration, Bureau Sub city, Gefersa Burayu woreda. The data were collected through FGD and interview. A purposive sampling technique and a “snow ball‟‟ sampling techniques were employed. The primary data were collected from the unemployed youth live in Gefersa Burayu sub city. Similarly data were collected from unemployed youths have been engaged in free service activities (volunteerism) in order to be hired at the end of the day. Findings of the study revealed that unemployed youths in the study area were facing many psycho-social and economic challenges while living in the community without job. It also implies that, being unemployment has resulted in not only in financial related problems but also it creates chains of poverty throughout life time. To overcome these challenges, governmental and private sector should work together to empower and capacitate unemployed youths by creating entrepreneurial initiatives
