Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to look into students' disciplinary issues and how these affected their academic performance in governmental secondary schools in Welmera woreda. To meet the study's objectives, a descriptive research design was adopted. To obtain sufficient results, this study combined both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Combining diverse approaches (quantitative and qualitative) can help to provide well-validated and noteworthy results. The researcher employed the quantitative approach to thoroughly analyze the data, which was presented and interpreted statistically. The qualitative method is used to collect and display information using words. The populations of this study was 1747 students, 90 teachers, 1 supervisor, 4 school leaders, 12 Parents, Teachers Associations and 12 students Discipline Committee. Out of these, 164 students, 24 teachers, 1 supervisor 4 school leaders, 12 Parents, Teachers Associations and 12 Student Discipline committee used as the sample size in the study for questionnaires and to conduct interview. The sampling techniques employed using simple random sampling for students and teachers. The students’ Discipline Committee, School Leaders and Parents, Teachers Associations generally were taken using the census due to their limited number. The method of data analyses which collected by open ended questionnaire were discussed in words qualitatively and that obtained from the interview and Observation method presented by narration in written form. Then, Quantitative and qualitative analyzing methods employed. The study revealed the commonly and frequently observed types of students’ disciplinary problems in the schools. The preferred strategies to minimize students’ misbehavior are; to make discussion with their family as 68% of the teachers and 93.2% of student’s responses depict and create peer intervention, provide sustainable guidance and counseling service.
