Background:-The origins of the trafficking debate date back to the end of the nineteenth century. And
how shocking it is that forced labor slavery—global enterprise for centuries—still exists, flying in the face
of its heralded abolition in the nineteenth century. Again now a day human trafficking, forced labor, and
slavery are high on the agenda of many governments and their enforcement branches as well as local and
international human rights organizations.
Objective: - To assess the victims and consequences of trafficking among grade nine female students
Surrounding sheger City, Gefersa Guje sub-city, Oromia regional state from October 01/2023 to June
30/2024.
Method: Facility based correctional study was conducted from October 01/2023 to June 30/2024 among
grade nine female students in the surroundings of sheger city.gefersa guje sub-city. Data was collected
using adapted structured interviewer administered questionnaire from different literatures and it was
exported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Variables with a p-value less than 0.25 in bivariate and p-value
less than 0.05 in multivariate logistic regression model were used to identify the strength of association
between dependent and independent variables using odds ratio (OR) and adjusted odds ratio (AOR)
along with a 95% confidence interval respectively. Purposive sampling method was used to recruit key
informant interviews.
Result: This study showed that 103(57.2%) of respondents has positive response and 50(27.8%) negative
response on existing poverty and economic opportunity of human trafficking while 27(15) were neutral
response. More than half of study participants 100(55.6%) had positive response, 59(32.9%) negative
response and only 21(11.7) had neutral response on breakers on family and society as consequences of
human trafficking. Student whose age’s ranges 20-30 were seven times more likely to expose for human
trafficking when compared to their respective reference group (AOR=27.12, 95 %( CI: 1.45-35.11) and
Family members whose occupation is casual employment-private were over ninety times more often
exposed for human trafficking when compared with student. (AOR=19.8, 95 %( CI: 53.47-113.63) were
contributing factors for human trafficking among grade nine female studentin the study area. |
