Abstract:
This study was conducted to assess the contribution of cooperatives in socio-economic empowerment of members in the case of Agriculture multipurpose primary cooperative societies in West Shoa Zone at Dandi Woreda. The researcher used cross-sectional data covering a period in 2021. Since the data was survey in nature the researcher used both qualitative and quantitative research approach to achieve objectives of the study. For this study descriptive statistics and multiple regressions were used to analyze primary and secondary data to reach the result of the study using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20 for descriptive statics and used STATA version 13 computer software for multiple regression analysis. The result of the study showed that all independent variables Contribution of saving mobilization, Contribution income generation, Contribution of employment creation, Sustain livelihood of communities, Awareness creation, Cooperatives Governance and Promote Access of marketing have a positive influence with Socio-economic empowerment. The study shows that based on over all mean of the statement the respondents agree for Cooperatives Governance, respondents disagree for providing access of marketing and respondents disagree for socio-economic empowerment of members. Thus, the researcher recommended that West Shoa Zone Cooperatives promotion Agency should provide more technical assistance that means training, legal and audit support to the cooperatives members and create continuous follow up in order to improve socio-economic empowerment of members
