Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate traditional conflict management resolution
mechanism among the Oromo of Jimma Rare in Horo Guduru Wellega zone. The study
attempted to identify the source of conflict, and the way in which the community used to
resolve the case. In order to attain the objective of the study, qualitative design was
materialized. Data were gathered from aba Gada, elders, and religious leaders and from
the expertise of the wereda cultural and tourism. Formal, informal and participant
observation and document analysis was the instrument used for data collection. The data
gathered were analyzed and interpreted qualitatively. Finding of the study showed that
the necessity of arbitration, the importance of negotiation in resolving conflict, the
importance of mediation coming together and make deep discussion and give possible
solution for that conflict.
Above all the study revealed that the importance of contextual or indigenous conflict
management mechanisms such as, social committee “jarsolii” , group net working etc in
alleviating conlict were to some extent put in to practice in the study area.
