dc.description.abstract Project Management remains a highly problematical endeavor these days. It fails to live up to the expectations of stakeholders as they continue to be disappointed by projects‟ results. This study was aimed to assess the practices and challenges of project management in public sectors of Guje district. To achieve this objective, the study employees descriptive research design. To select the representative sample from the total population, simple random sampling technique has been used. To collect data questionnaire and interview used and documents analysis was analyzed by descriptive statistics. SPSS version 22 was used for the analysis. The results of the study show that the practices of resource mobilization, monitoring and valuation and risk management are poor in project management of the study area. There are many challenges like time, cost and quality, insufficiency of human resource and organizational were identified. For these challenges, Guje woreda should step up its mercenaries in place in order to ensure effective project management and control. en_US
