dc.description.abstract Introduction: Depressive Disorder is a state of low mood and aversion to activity. Nurse workers are at risk of greater levels of professional stress in their personal lives which predispose them to depressive disorder. In Ethiopia, knowledge about depressive disorders among nurses is limited. Job satisfaction among nurses and depressive disorder is often overlooked and should be evaluated as a factor of depressive disorder. Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study design was conducted. Intervieweradministered was used from March 02, 2024, to April 5, 2024. There were 439 respondents selected using a simple random sampling method. The descriptive analysis such as percentage, proportion, frequency distribution and appropriate graphic presentation were used. Analysis was done using SPSS software. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions were employed. P-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant association. Result: A total of 439 nurse individuals participated, with a response rate of 100%. The Magnitude of Depressive Symptoms among Nurses who were working in Addis Ababa public Hospitals was 71.8 % [95% CI (67.3%, 75.9%)], Bing female [AOR= 2.40; 95%CI: 1.45-3.97] , Having History of stressful life event [AOR=1.89; 95% CI: 1.13-3.16], working 8 hours [AOR=5.29; 95%CI: 1.15-24.30], working more than 8 hours [AOR=12.99; 95% CI: 2.97-56.69], working inpatient Department [AOR=4.85; 95% CI: 1.51-15.50], working outpatient Department [AOR=4.67; 95% CI: 1.31- 16.57],having poor social support [AOR=6.36; 95% CI: 3.12-12.95] remained statistically significant. Conclusion: This study found a high magnitude of depressive disorder among participants, particularly among female nurses, those working over 8 hours, in inpatient departments, with a history of stressful life events, and poor social support. Health care administrators and the Ministry of Health should focus on these groups to reduce the burden of depressive disorder among nurses en_US
