Abstract:
The main objective of the study was to investigating determinants that deteriorate the
performance of middle andlong distance runners in Gulale sub-city athletics club, Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia. To achieve the objective of the study descriptive mixed (quantitative and
qualitative) research design was employed. Comprehensive sampling technique was used
to select sample of study, the entire N=25 athletes and N= (3) three coaches were
selected as sample of the study. The data were collected through questionnaires’,
interview and observation from the athletes and coaches. Then the collected quantitative
data were analyzed through descriptive statistical package for social science (SPSS V.26)
using frequency and percent. Beside interview and observation was analyzed
qualitatively. Depending on the analysis made, researcher identifies the conclusion and
finding of the study. According the result of the study revealed, the determinant that
deteriorate the performance of short and long distance of the athletes incase Gulale sub
city were lack of dietary program, conductive training program, lack of encouragements
and motivation during training session as well as during computation. The other that
deteriorate the performance of the athletes were explained as lack of adequacy of facility
and equipment’s, effort of coaches and administration to fulfill the facility and
equipment’s the club, the standard and availability of facility and equipment’s.
Additional coaches’ experience and coaching quality was identified as the main problem
to deteriorate the performance middle and long distance of Gulale sub city athletics club.
Depending on the result of the study the researcher recommended Gulale sub city
athletics club and all concerned body to find out the solution especially regarding with
faccilty and equipmens because as the result revealed that the facility and equipment’s
were the significant problem which deteriorate the performance of middle and long
distance athlete in Gulale sub city athletics club.
