dc.description.abstract Background: Intrauterine contraceptive device is a small device that is placed inside uterus or womb to prevent pregnancy. It is the safest and efficient type of long acting reversible contraceptive and it has a number of benefits over other types. In spite of several advantages and potential effectiveness of Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device, its utilization is still too low in Sub Saharan African countries including Ethiopia. Intra uterine contraceptive device underuse is still a problem, and further research is needed to identify locally determinants of intrauterine contraceptive device utilization among women of reproductive age. Objective: The objective of this study was to identify Determinants of Intra uterine Contraceptive device utilization among women of reproductive age attending family planning service at public health facilities of South West Shoa zone, Ethiopia, 2024. Methods: Facility-based unmatched case control study design was conducted among women of reproductive age (15-49 years) from February 2 to March 30/2024. A total of 344 study participants were included in the analysis with proportion of case to control ratio of one to three. In each facility, all women .who were using intrauterine contraceptive device during the study period were selected as cases. Controls that use family planning other than intrauterine contraceptive device were selected by random sampling method. Data were collected by structured questionnaires by interviewing the study participants. Data entered to EPI- Info version 7.2.6.0 and coding, cleaning and analyzing was done using SPSS version 25.0 statistical software. Odds ratio with 95% CI and p-value less than 0.05 wereused to show degree of association between independent variables and Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device utilization. Results:In this study multivariable analysis showed that age category of 35-49 years(AOR:3.41,95%CI,1.33-8.74),discuss about intrauterine contraceptive device with health care provider(AOR:3.31,95%CI,1.73-6.35),perception of intra uterine contraceptive device may migrate to other organs (AOR:2.99,95%CI,1.24-7.20),marital status (AOR:2.6,95%CI,1.13-6.24),knowing intrauterine contraceptive protect pregnancy for 12 years(AOR:6.8,95%CI,3.2-4.57) and number of children (AOR:4.31,95%,1.51-12.31) were found to have statistical significant association with use of intra uterine contraceptive device. Conclusion: This study identified the determinants of intra uterine contraceptive device utilization like marital status; knowing intrauterine contraceptive protect for 12 years; discuss with health care provider; age category of 35-49 years; perception of intra uterine contraceptive device may migrate to other organs and number of children greater than two. Thus, all stakeholders should work to increase the utilization of this effective and safe modern contraceptive method. en_US
