Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants that impends the performance of short distance athletes in the first division athletics clubs at Addis Ababa city. The method of the study was a cross sectional descriptive Survey. The subjects in this study were 108 athletes, 10 athletics coaches and 6 clubs technical directors. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The data gathered were analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. To gather the data for this study, the sample size of this researcher take all the entire population (census) sampling method was used to take athletes, Coaches and clubs Directors. The results of findings show that the mean score of the four independent factors (physical and physiological, facility and equipment, Technical, and Talent identification)were2.7179, 1.9259, 2.9840 and 2.4799respectively, means that Talent identification were relatively the dominate variables in the clubs as a sprinting performance determinants. Also, it was concluded that all the factors (facility and equipment, physical and physiological, technical and talent identification problem) have a positive and statistically significant relationship with sprinting performance, from those factors, the talent identification factor has a high effect on the process of developing short distance athletes above all the other factors. Finally, it was recommended that work on coaching expertise at the grassroots level, develop and apply standardized scientific talent identification criteria and methods, all the independent factors in performance determinants must take into considerations, fulfill basic athletics facility and equipment’s for the process of develop sprinter performance, give full attention, follow-up, and support from all concerned bodies, prepare strategic competition opportunities in all regions and give a chance for athletes to participate in it, Produce a healthy, strong bond between regional and national athletics federations, regions, and academy, build scientific tanning mechanism in order to improve sprinting performance in the clubs.
