Abstract:
This study was guided by the following research objectives: to explain the potential role of youth, to assess the actual practices of youth, to investigate the opportunities of the role of youth , and
also to explore the challenges of the role of youth in peace building in Ginchi town. The
prevalent image of youth with regards to peace and conflict is often negative, meaning that they
are often seen as major actors when it comes to violence. Since youth are seen as dynamic and
open, they have the potential to have a role in peace building. For instance, Qeerroo and Qarree
of the Gadaa system emerge from Oromo ethnic group to resist the TPLF cruel activities and
guard their society and land. Similarly, different youth group like Fanno Amhara region, Ejetto
in Sidama, Berberta in Somali, Jeldim in Gambela, Yelaga in Wolaita and others from different
ethnic groups raised for the equal economic and political benefit of their respective ethnic group
( Mulualem, 2019). The study was delimited in Ginchi town, West Shewa zone, Oromia regional
state, Ethiopia. This study employed a qualitative approach which exploitative to be precise. The
result of the study revealed that youth in Ginchi town play great roles in peace building and they
were participating and have the abilities in analyzing and resolving various conflicts. The study
recommends that there is need for how to improve a role of youth in peace building
