dc.description.abstract In Ethiopia, demand of fertilizers is a severe problem and a major cause of the decline of agricultural productivity. Interventions were taken by introducing inorganic fertilizer practices. However, the intensity rates of these practices remain below the expected levels in Ethiopia and particularly in the study area. This study aims to identify factors affecting the demand of fertilizes in Dendi district. The mixed type of research approach was employed as well as descriptive and explanatory method of data analysis. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected from primary and secondary source. Multistage sample method numbers of 175 survey responses in the study area. In addition to this, the semi structure survey questionnaire interview faceto- face respondent, key informal interview and focus group discussion with triangulations primary data was used to strengthen the information that has been collected. The data has been analyzed through, descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression econometric model. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, mean, standard deviation, and percentage were used for analyzing the data. The multiple linear regression model results showed expectation of demand for fertilizer purchase (intensity) the fertilizer showed that sex of household at 5%, education level at 1%, quantity amount at 1%, income at 10%, off-farm income at 10%, oxen at 5% and timely deliver fertilizer at 5% are positively affected demand while age of household at 5%, perception on fertilizer at 5% and price of fertilizer at 5% negatively affected the demand of fertilizer. Therefore, additional store building, computerized system of estimation of demand of fertilizer, subsidy programs on the price of fertilizer, delivering credit, assign efficient extension system and attention given for the timely distribution of fertilizer to the farmers are the most important thing to be considered in the study area. There is also need to education and extension approach for strengthen their respondents in order to increase interest utilize fertilizers they provide as well as support provided by the different stockholder especially Government, Researcher and NGO en_US
