dc.description.abstract Urban expansion was a common phenomenon in both developed and developing countries. In developed countries, it has associated with economic advancement and urban centers were seen as engine of growth enhancing rural development by creating market for agricultural products and providing agricultural inputs for more productivity. However, in developing countries urban expansion were with negative effect. The major effects contributing for rapid urban expansion in Ethiopia were higher natural population growth, rural to urban migration and spatial urban development. Kachise town was one of the most expanding Towns in term of population in the country. This study mainly investigates the effect of the expansion of the town on the socioeconomic and biodiversity of the society. Household serve conducted on 400 households sampled thorough systematic sampling and non probability sampling techniques .Method backed by tools such as open-ended , interviews, and focus group discussions while the secondary one was from different written and documented sources. There were 2509 of Society which the sample size of 400 (16 percent) was taken. The result of the study indicated that urban expansion program around Kachisi was not participatory, people were not given awareness, and the dislocated households did not have opportunity to bargain in the determination of the amount and kinds of compensation and calculating the value of assets . Urban expansion, displacement and compensation program that may be proposed in the future needs to adequately aware and involve the community and compensation should be revised both in kind and amount involving skill development and other training and follow up after. The interactions between urbanization with biodiversity and ecosystem services that take place defy simple generalizations. There is increasing evidence for the negative impacts of urbanization on biodiversity, most directly in the form of habitat loss and fragmentation. Expansion program that may be proposed on,the community in the future needs the participation of the society in planning and implementation;so as to reduce the negative effects of dislocation program on the biodiversity and socioeconomic of the society en_US
